Fancy Finds - encouraging a re-purposed life
What are Fancy Finds? I'm glad you asked.
Over the past four years that I've been at this thing we call retail I've had some pretty moving experiences in regards to the quality and craft of available new goods. Time and time again I search for that perfect leather work bag only to find a limited selection of mediocrity and rarely stumble upon a style that speaks to the modern fashionista in any of us. And with the goal of staying under the three figure mark I find my options even more compromised. As a buyer, this experience has pushed me to explore other avenues and hence, Fancy Finds. Fancy Finds are another way you can incorporate recycled and re-purposed goods into your life in the form of hot men and womens lifestyle bags. Vintage? Yes, some. Leather? sometimes...but always a classic feel with modern lines and functional, functional, functional. I'll be posting pics of my recent finds to keep you informed on our inventory because they go fast considering their low price and exceptional durability. Here's a peak at two hot finds that landed in the store just yesterday. Enjoy!
p.s. the black one is vegan :)

July Denver Made Interview: Perla Lu
July's Denver Made event brings the mother/daughter team Perla Lu to the store for an evening of celebration of their collaborative accessory line. Perla Lu is the perfect team to lead us into this summer season with their brightly colored, playful and feminine work. Erin, the daughter behind this mother/daughter team was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions for us in preparation for their Denver Made event this coming Friday July 2nd.
(Pink Buds Headband by Perla Lu)
PL: We wanted the name to be cute and feminine like our line, but we also wanted it to be different. Perla is an Italian name for pearl and Lu was just a perfect ending to achieve the feminine feeling we were going for.
(Clearly Precious Necklace by Perla Lu)
FT: How did you get your start?
PL: My mom actually started making jewelry when she took a class on the process. I have always been interested in anything creative (I have a background in drawing and painting, along with graphic design), so she started teaching me the techniques. It was perfect because we got to do something together that we both liked. It was also really cool to see how we could take our individual styles and bring them together. We are really good at bouncing things off each other and feeding each others creativity. Pretty soon what started as simple beading and jewelry making, turned into the multitude of things we make today. The possibilities are endless and we are always trying new and different things.

FT: Where do you find your best inspiration for your work?
PL: Inspiration is so personal and so organic. It can come from anywhere. Sometimes you'll be walking and a piece of trash on the ground will spark a thought. Sometimes you'll be shopping and notice something really eye catching that inspires you. I think the idea of inspiration is to always be looking and to always be thinking. There are great ideas everywhere if you are paying attention.
(Poppy of Love Zipper Brooch by Perla Lu)
FT: What music do you listen to when you work on your product?
PL: We rarely have music on. I think the time we spend crafting is more of a time for us to talk and hang out. Plus, I am sure we would disagree on what to listen to anyway! HA!
(First Rose Necklace by Perla Lu)
FT: What would you like people to know about your work/process that isn’t evident when looking at it?
PL: I am not sure there is anything that isn't obvious when looking at our stuff. But, I do think it's important to know that everything we make, we love. We make it with heart and with care. We explore all mediums and really just love doing what we do and being able to share it.
Make sure to stop by Friday July 2nd from 7-10pm and partake in great beverages and excellent company while enjoying the work of Perla Lu. Who knows you may even go home with a new treasure of your own.
